Cage (Vivarium)

A 20 gallons long makes a big cage for a corn snake. Even five meters long fully grown adult corn snakes, only require a cage about three feet long by five ten to eighteen inches high by fifteen inch from front to rear. In fact, this size is large enough for a couple of Corn Snakes.

It is ok to keep two snakes in a cage, but three or more is too much. In other hand, snakes are not as large open space. So it's no good getting an adult size cage for Hatchling. The great room is stress these young corn snakes from.

Corn snakes are good at climbing, very small-scale holes, and can even push their bodies to the screen tip of a poorly equipped cage. Corn snakes are excellent escape artists, so picking a solid cage with a secure top is very important. Some snakes are constantly rub their nose shielded against the top of the cage to find a way out. The resulting scratch should be treated with an antiseptic and antibiotic ointment. Always evaluate the institution in the cabin to a more natural environment. It is a good idea to use plants and many hiding spots in a large cage to the corn snake feel secure.

Hiding Place

hiding spots and equipment for climbing and resting place should be. A field hiding, upturned cardboard or plastic tube, it should be ensured that is just large enough for the corn snake to hide away and curl up in. Hollow bark "protocols" (available from most reptiles PET shops) make a good choice to "natural" look. In the ideal case, a hiding spot should be in the cooler and warmer ends of the enclosure. Heating

Corn snakes, like all reptiles, can not maintain their internal body heat. Thus, the maintenance of the cage to the right temperature is crucial for the care of corn snakes. A temperature gradient from 70 to 75? F on an end of the cage to 80 to 85? F on the other side should be maintained to enable the snake to regulate their body temperature, by moving from one part of the cage on the other side.

The heat mat is the best way to heat the corn snake in a cage. It is rectangular electric heating pads, sealed in plastic composite with the electrical cord from an edge. Available in different sizes for different cages and can be purchased in reptiles PET shops.

The heat pad, should only be after a one-half of the cage, which affects roughly half of the floor area so that the corn snake of a selection of hot and cold areas. To monitor the temperature easy, inexpensive self-stick thermometers can be purchased and are about an inch above the bottom of the cage on the warm side. A thermostat and heat sensor must be included in the system to automatically heat pad and off. All the elements for the snake cage can be a good reptile pet shop.

lighting

Corn snakes do not need light to survive. In fact, they would probably prefer no light. But most prefer to reptile keeper, a kind of light into the cage, to see the PET better. A normal 60-watt light bulb budget is quite reasonable. It is not too bright and create too much heat. The light must be the same purpose as the heat pad. A guard should be available around the bulb, because otherwise the snakes are their noses up to the light bulb and even burn.

water

A bowl of fresh water for drinking must be available to the snake at all times. If the snake defecated in it, the dish must be cleaned immediately. The peel should be cool at the end of the cage, away from the heat pad.

substrate

A variety of materials can be used for the substrate. Newspaper is the effective choice - it is very easy to clean, but the look in the cage leaves a little to be desired. Indoor /outdoor carpeting and "Astroturf" (plastic grass) can be used, and if you have two pieces, you can rotate them through the exchange of clean for the dirty work on cleaning time and thoroughly washing and drying the soiled one. Pine bark chips are a good choice - the chips may be contaminated with feces simply be scooped out, and a thorough cleaning is required. Aspen shaving can be used in similar form, but it is probably a good idea to the corn snake on a separate containers for feeding, so that the chips are not inadvertently included.

The pets vary according to their respective owners. Always keep in mind that the cage for PET corn snake should have the same environmental conditions that the corn snake needs to survive. Make sure that you are the right place in your house where the cage.
